Days After Samuel L. Jackson’s Vulgar Exchange Over Angel Reese, Celtics Legend Pushes for a New Perspective on “Unclassy” NCAA Saga

To an already exciting final of the women’s NCAA championship, came an even more aroused controversy.  In a thrilling match-up, LSU Tigers emerged victorious over the Iowa Hawkeyes, a victory gesture that seems to have overshadowed the big win. As a response to Caitlin Clark’s gesture in a previous game, Angel Reese had mimicked the infamous John Cena and Stephen Curry celebratory gesture. While the LSU star has received a lot of criticism for her gesture, many have come forward in her support but a certain Celtics legend shared an interesting perspective in a recent podcast.

One of the most noted exchanges on Twitter amid the Reese controversy was between actor Samuel L. Jackson and sports commentator Keith Olbermann. While the commentator had discouraged Reese’s gesture using expletives in his tweet, Samuel L. Jackson responded with equally harsh and ‘vulgar’ language albeit in favor of Reese.

While most of the sports world and fans are engaged in debating whether Reese’s gesture was in good taste or not, Paul Pierce focused on a different angle of the story.

The Celtics’ shooting guard in a passionate and insightful response to the Clark-Reese controversy said, “They talk about the trash talk that went on between Caitlin and Reese, but this is my thing- despite all of that, the interest in the women’s game went to another level and that’s what I love about this. It [the controversy] sparked so much interest people already talking about next year’s [NCAA tournament]. The girl’s basketball scene is getting to another level and I’m happy that you know people are starting to garnish more interest in that because these girls are skilled, they play the right way, they’re getting better, they’re revolutionizing the girl’s gang… you see more girls even dunk, I mean it’s crazy.”

Kevin Garnett certainly seemed to agree with Paul Pierce. He even went on to praise Caitlin Clark and other women’s basketball players like Paige Bueckers.

Kevin Garnett began talking about women’s basketball and could not help but sing Clark’s praises comparing her to Stephen Curry. He said “Caitlin Clark is the f*****g truth bro. Like there [are] so many narratives in women’s basketball right now, [and] when I’m watching her I feel like I’m re-watching Stephan.”

Garnett strongly advocated for Clark to play in the league and a possible matchup between Connecticut’s Bueckers and her.
