The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences extended a total of 397 invitations to distinguished artists and executives to join the organisation in 2022.

“Membership selection is based on professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity. This year’s class of invitees includes 71 Oscar nominees, including 15 winners,” reads the academy’s press release.

Nazih was invited within the Music jury category, with his name appearing among known international musicians, such as Billie Eilish, Amie Doherty, Lili Haydn, Leo Heiblum, Natalie Holt, Nathan Johnson, Jacobo Lieberman, Ariel Rose Marx, Finneas O’Connell, Dan Romer and Nerida Tyson-Chew.

He was the only Arab artist invited to participate in this category. Another Arab artist, Jordanian director Murad Abu Eisheh was invited to join the Short Films and Animation jury category. 

Born in 1972, Nazih is an Egyptian film and television series score composer.

Nazih’s name came to international limelight after he composed music for the Pharaoh’s Golden Parade (April 2021), which saw 22 mummies being transferred across Cairo to a new museum in a grandiose parade that was broadcast worldwide. 

A few months later, Nazih was tapped to write the music for Marvel Studios’ latest series, the six-episode saga Moon Knight, directed by Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab.

Nazih’s career however consists of three decades of composing music for film and television. His music adorns a number of highly successful films, including Hysteria, Sleepless Nights (2003), Tito (2004), Ibrahim Labyad (2009), Elfeel El-Azraq (The Blue Elephant, 2014), The Treasure (2017), The Treasure 2 (2019), Sons of Rizk (2019), among others. 

Nazih also wrote the music for Born a King, a 2019 historical coming-of-age drama film directed by Agustí Villaronga. The film was a coproduction between the UK and five Arab countries.

His scores for the television series include Sharbat Louz (Almond Nectar, 2012), Niran Sadiqa (Friendly Fire, 2013), and Al-Aahd (The Covenant, 2015).

Over the years, he collaborated with a number of well-known directors including Sherif Arafa and Marwan Hamed, with whom he worked on several occasions.

Nazih’s work for El-Asliyyin (2017) brought him the Best Music award at the Cairo National Festival for Egyptian Cinema (2018). For his contribution to the film music scene, he was also awarded the Faten Hamama Excellence Award at the 40th Cairo International Film Festival (2018).
